The Mission Commission promotes the missional programs of the church by identifying community needs in cooperation with the Nurture commission as well as with the other commissions of the church. And then it reports those needs to the Session and congregation to encourage their help and participation
In addition, the Mission Commission is responsible for promoting the various special offerings that are conducted throughout the year. This promotion can be done through a number of means; during worship, through special events that are scheduled or through the News Letter.
On those occasions when there are emergency needs either within the congregation, the community or the larger community (ie. National or International) the Mission Commission will spring into action. They have supported work in Ireland, Guatemala, Haiti, and the Philippines. The Mission Commission was behind the initial efforts to help following Hurricane Sandy.
When there are changes going on in the area, it is the task of this commission to be abreast of those changes, what they mean to the church and to advocate any response that may be needed.
